With the "Remote Customer Acquisition" practice implemented by the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) in 2021, banks have become able to offer all their end-to-end services without requiring customers to visit a branch.

Data shared by the Banks Association of Turkey (TBB) reveals that digital banking is growing rapidly in Turkey. According to the report, the number of active digital banking accounts in Turkey reached 104 million in the first month of 2023, showing an increase of 21.73% compared to the previous year. Of these accounts, 99.2 million were individual accounts, which have shown a 9.8% increase since the beginning of the year, while 4.8 million were commercial accounts. While transactions for 2 million 9 thousand accounts were conducted solely via internet banking, 91 million 351 thousand account users preferred mobile banking.

MEN USE DIGITAL BANKING MORE ACTIVELY

According to data from the Banks Association of Turkey, men are the most frequent users of digital banking services, which help you handle all your transactions 24/7 quickly and easily without going to the bank. Men make up 66% of digital banking customers, while women make up 34%. The most common generation using these services consists of people between the ages of 36 and 55. As a result of this data, it is also observed that the adult and middle-aged groups have become accustomed to technology and digital banking.

4.5 MILLION NEW CUSTOMERS VIA REMOTE SERVICE

Today, social media and digital channels have become important factors influencing the attitudes and behaviors of customers. As banks have adapted quickly to the digital era, they have also been able to reach potential customers rapidly. While the number of banks currently performing remote customer acquisition has risen to 17, banks gained 13.6 million new customers in the first 9 months of 2023, with 4.5 million of these customers acquired through remote customer service. This method has become one of the most important ways for banks to expand their share of new customer acquisition. HangiKredi, a pioneer in the banking product comparison sector, covers 14% of the remote customer acquisition market. In other words, 14% of people who become bank customers via remote video calls meet the bank they will become a customer of through HangiKredi. This data also shows how inclined customers are to use financial services that will make their lives easier.

NUMBER OF CREDIT CARDS REACHED 111.4 MILLION IN 2023

The number of credit cards in use, which was 99.5 million in 2022, reached 111.4 million by the end of August 2023. Considering the credit cards that were closed or canceled during the year, it is observed that 16 million credit cards were delivered to new customers in 8 months. This number, which was 11.7 million in August 2022, has shown an increase of 37% within one year. Credit and credit card preferences can also be handled quickly by receiving remote service through digital channels. In the first 6 months of 2023, a total of 13.7 million consumer loans were utilized, an increase of 32% compared to the same period in 2022. Due to the weighted interest rate, which has risen from 44% to over 60% since June, there has been a decline in consumer loan usage in the last quarter.
