Özgür Demirtaş issues banknote warning with 'inevitable after the election' remarks
Reports that the government will introduce 500 TL banknotes have remained on the agenda for a long time. Prof. Dr. Özgür Demirtaş, Chair of the Finance Department at Sabancı University, issued a warning regarding the printing of new banknotes.
Demirtaş stated that 500 and 1000 TL banknotes should be printed.
Economist Özgür Demirtaş emphasized in a post on his X account that he has been warning about banknotes for a long time.
Özgür Demirtaş said, "Print 500 and 1000 TL banknotes. You will be forced to do it after the election anyway. What are you waiting for?"

The largest banknote in Turkey is 200 TL. Economists have been stating for some time that the printing of 500 and 1000 TL banknotes is inevitable.
Prof. Dr. Şenol Babuşçu, Head of the International Finance and Banking Department at Başkent University, also stated in a live broadcast that preparations were being made to print the banknotes but that it had been postponed until after the election.
