Pay attention to the discount label! Sellers are now required to follow these rules
The Ministry of Trade has reminded sellers of the rules to be followed in the promotion of discounted products, emphasizing that certain criteria must be met to ensure consumers are not misled.
The Ministry stated that sellers and providers organizing discount sales campaigns must determine discount rates based on the lowest price applied in the 30 days prior to the start date of the discount. Furthermore, it was stated that this price information must be clearly shared in advertisements.
It was also emphasized that the start and end dates of discount sales, as well as information regarding limited quantities of products or services, must be clearly stated. Pointing out that misleading statements must be avoided, the Ministry highlighted the importance of informing consumers accurately.
Stating that it continues its efforts to protect consumer rights and ensure the fair operation of the market, the Ministry announced that the updated version of the "Guide on Advertisements Containing Price Information and Discounted Sales Advertisements and Commercial Practices" has been shared with the public. It was noted that the guide can be accessed at https://tuketici.ticaret.gov.tr/haberler/fiyat-bilgisi-iceren-reklamlar-ile-indirimli-satis-reklamlari-ve-ticari-uygulamalari-hakkinda-kilavuz-guncellendi.
It was stated that this guide, prepared to serve as a roadmap for advertisers, agencies, and other relevant organizations, was created in line with the decisions of the Advertising Board.
