Penalties coming for those charging commission on credit card cigarette purchases
New sanctions will be implemented against businesses that demand extra fees when purchasing cigarettes with a credit card.
The Ministry of Trade and the Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BDDK) have put an end to the debates regarding the demand for extra fees when purchasing cigarettes with a credit card. In the statement made, it was specified that no additional fees can be charged to citizens for cigarette sales made via credit card.
It was emphasized that according to the Bank Cards and Credit Cards Law, businesses cannot demand a commission or similar fee from card users. It was reminded that the membership agreements of businesses that do not comply with this rule with banks will be terminated.
Furthermore, it was stated that businesses demanding extra fees during credit card cigarette purchases should be reported to the public prosecutor's offices or the BDDK.
