Presidency budget approved: The Palace will spend 33 million 600 thousand liras per day

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly discussed the 2024 budget for the Presidency and its affiliated institutions on Friday, December 22. The 12.3 billion TL budget allocated for the Presidency was finalized following its approval in the General Assembly.

While the Palace's budget increased by 93 percent compared to the previous year, a reaction came from CHP Muğla Deputy Cumhur Uzun.

According to the report in Sözcü, Uzun, who criticized the government in the TBMM General Assembly, stated that the public has been forgotten and said, '’With the one-man regime created, you are squandering resources by saying ‘there is no saving on prestige.’ In 2024, the daily expenditure of the Presidential palace will be 33 million 600 thousand liras. 10 million liras will also be spent daily for protection services.”

Reminding that forests in Muğla burned to ashes right before everyone's eyes because there were no firefighting planes, Uzun drew attention to the Presidency's 15 aircraft. He reacted by saying, “It is clear evidence of how resources are being recklessly spent.”

Stating that the budget was made for cronies and usurers, Uzun gave the following messages in summary:

“This budget was written by the appointees in the palace. Therefore, it has become a budget of interest, a budget of debt repayment, and even a budget of paying interest on interest. There is not a single lira of appropriation allocated to improve the living conditions of the laborer, the farmer, the tradesman, the retiree, the civil servant, women, youth, students, the disabled, in short, our long-suffering people. This regime has also pushed austerity policy aside and did not even comply with the circulars it issued. I am not even mentioning the secret appropriation…”

“The public is below the poverty line, and the minimum wage has become the average wage. The President has 15 planes. We could not find a plane to extinguish the fire in Muğla and our forests burned to ashes right before our eyes. But the Presidency has 15 planes, and this is clear evidence of how resources are being recklessly spent in this country… If the President does not give an order, no official can do a single thing. They cannot even resign unless an order comes from there.”
