Price hike for private nursing homes in Istanbul! Base fee exceeds pension
Fees at private nursing homes in Istanbul have been redetermined. Following the hikes, the lowest price has risen above the 20,000 lira level, while monthly fees at some facilities have exceeded 100,000 lira.
With the latest hikes in private nursing home prices in Istanbul, the minimum fee that families must pay has risen to 20,250 lira. The most expensive nursing home stands out with a price of 106,616 lira. It was noted that a 10 percent VAT is added separately to both the lower and upper limit figures.
According to a report on NTV, these prices cover the basic care fees for nursing home services. In addition, extra payments are requested for health services such as physical therapy and dialysis. Fikret Bayrak, a nursing home official, pointed out in his statement on the matter that only care expenses are included in these figures, saying, "It is not possible to find a nursing home in Istanbul for 20,000 lira." Bayrak also stated that their institutions provide services at the standard of hotel services.
The situation in the public sector continues with more affordable prices compared to the private sector. While room fees in nursing homes affiliated with the Ministry of Family and Social Services start at an average of 10,000 lira, services can be obtained at even lower prices in institutions belonging to metropolitan and district municipalities.
On the other hand, while public services provided by the Ministry cover those over the age of 60, the age limit in private nursing homes is set at 55. Fikret Bayrak stated that the state should provide support so that the private sector can serve more citizens, pointing out that accessibility could increase as costs decrease.
In the face of rising prices, private sector representatives are demanding incentives from the public sector in order to reach a wider segment of the population and ensure the sustainability of the service.
