Price tag regulation changed: QR code menu and tare weight requirements introduced

In order to enable consumers to make more informed decisions regarding prices, the Ministry of Trade has implemented significant changes to the Price Tag Regulation. According to the report on NTV, with the new regulation, it has become mandatory for sellers to deduct the weight of the container in which the product is weighed from the sales price, excluding packaging that does not affect the unit price such as plastic bags, stretch film, or paper bags. This practice will specifically apply to products sold in boxes, such as baklava. Thus, the tare weight of the box will be deducted, and pricing will be based solely on the net weight of the product.

PRICE DATA WILL BE TRANSMITTED INSTANTLY TO THE MINISTRY

New rules have also been introduced for the food and beverage sector. Businesses such as restaurants, cafes, patisseries, and diners will transmit information regarding their price lists to the Ministry of Trade's system. This data may be made accessible to the public. Furthermore, these businesses will display their price lists to customers via QR codes. Printed menus will be provided to customers who do not wish to use QR codes.

SEPARATE PENALTIES WILL BE APPLIED FOR EACH PRODUCT

In the event that price lists contain missing, incorrect, or non-compliant information, separate sanctions will be applied for each individual product. Thus, every non-compliance detected during inspections will be evaluated independently.

ELECTRONIC PRICE SYSTEM ERA FOR PRINTED PUBLICATIONS

New regulations have also been introduced for the sale of newspapers, magazines, and books. For these products, it has been made possible to establish a price system that can be viewed electronically, in addition to the price tag.

All these changes have come into effect as of today.
