Private sector's external debt shows an increase

According to data released by the TCMB, the private sector's long-term external debt increased by 3.4 billion dollars in February, reaching 162.6 billion dollars. In the same period, short-term external debt decreased by 1.6 billion dollars, falling to 16.6 billion dollars.

While the debt of financial institutions decreased by 343 million dollars compared to the previous month, the debt of non-financial institutions increased by 2.2 billion dollars. In long-term debt, financial institutions saw an increase of 1.2 billion dollars, while non-financial institutions saw an increase of 2.2 billion dollars. In short-term debt, financial institutions experienced a decrease of 1.6 billion dollars, and non-financial institutions experienced a decrease of 33 million dollars.

When the currency composition is examined, it is seen that 60.2 percent of the long-term external debt consists of US dollars, 31.1 percent of Euros, 2.3 percent of Turkish lira, and 6.4 percent of other foreign currencies. In short-term debt, 41.2 percent consists of US dollars, 14.3 percent of Euros, 41.7 percent of Turkish lira, and 2.8 percent of other foreign currencies.

The total external debt provided by the private sector was recorded at 56.1 billion dollars. Of this debt, 38.2 billion dollars belongs to banks, 12.8 billion dollars to non-financial institutions, and 5.0 billion dollars to non-bank financial institutions.
