Proposal for 30,000 TL raise for public administrators withdrawn from the Turkish Parliament
The motion for a 30,000 TL flat-rate raise for public administrators and career experts was withdrawn from the General Assembly of the Turkish Parliament following a motion submitted by the AKP.
During the deliberations on Article 4, the AKP submitted a motion to remove the additional clause regarding the 30,000 TL raise proposal for public administrators and career experts. The AKP's motion was accepted. There will be no 30,000 TL flat-rate raise for public administrators.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
With the regulation accepted in the Planning and Budget Committee of the Turkish Parliament, an additional salary increase ranging from 1,433 TL to 54,180 TL for approximately 34,200 career professionals and administrators had been approved. The additional raises were planned to be effective from the new year and to increase further in January along with the civil servant salary raise.
The purpose of the proposal was stated as preventing qualified personnel from moving to the private sector; however, the regulation drew public backlash on the grounds that it violated the principle of "equality." The flat-rate raise clause, which covered only a limited portion of civil servants, was planned to be added to the Tax Package via a motion after the committee stage and discussed in the General Assembly of the Turkish Parliament.
It was decided to withdraw the regulation, which had sparked public debate after being accepted in the Planning and Budget Committee, that envisioned a flat-rate raise of up to 30,000 TL for personnel in administrator and expert positions.
