Interest income earned by banks from loans and credit cards showed a historic increase in the first six months of 2025. In the first half of the year, the total interest income of banks rose to 3 trillion 855 billion 642 million liras.

According to the report by Birgün, this figure was at the level of 2 trillion 562 billion 161 million liras in the same period last year, meaning banks recorded a 50.5 percent increase in interest income in one year.

The majority of banks' interest income, specifically 66.2 percent, was generated from interest on loans. Interest income from consumer loans also rose remarkably. Consumer loan interest income, which was 226 billion 728 million liras last year, reached 329 billion 652 million liras in the first half of this year, showing an annual increase of 45.4 percent.
