Retiree bonus approved by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey
The legislative article providing for a one-time bonus of 5,000 TL to retirees in honor of the Republic's 100th anniversary has been approved by the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Following the group proposals and the Advisory Board proposal in the General Assembly, the deliberations began on the Draft Law on the Rental of Residences for Tourism Purposes and Amendments to Certain Laws, which also includes the provision for a one-time payment of 5,000 liras to retirees.
The 5,000 lira bonus will be deposited into retirees' accounts in the first half of November.
NOT ALL RETIREES WILL BENEFIT
The details regarding the one-time retiree bonus to be granted for the 100th anniversary of Republic Day were announced by President Erdoğan following the Cabinet Meeting held in recent days.
The bonus, which a portion of the millions of retired citizens will not be able to benefit from, will be paid partially to those receiving widow's and orphan's pensions.
Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan put an end to the debate regarding the 5,000 lira retiree bonus, which became a subject of controversy because it will only be given to non-working retirees. Minister Işıkhan stated, "We have completed the regulation. We have excluded working retirees from the scope. The scope regarding retiree bonuses will not be expanded."
WHO WILL RECEIVE THE BONUS?
Speaking after the Cabinet Meeting, Erdoğan had announced who would receive the retiree bonus. Erdoğan had announced that the retiree bonus would not be given to retirees who continue to work:
"We are excluding our retirees who have retired but continue to work actively from this regulation. These payments will be deposited into our retirees' accounts as of the first half of November.
We will review the situation of our retirees at the beginning of the year and demonstrate every kind of sacrifice. I wish for this decision to be beneficial."
WILL THOSE RECEIVING WIDOW'S AND ORPHAN'S PENSIONS RECEIVE THE RETIREE BONUS?
It is expected that those who are widowed and have no children will benefit from the bonus at a rate of 75 percent, those who are widowed and have children at 50 percent, and those who are orphans at 25 percent.
Accordingly, it is stated that payments for widowed citizens with children will remain at 2,500 TL, and orphan payments at 1,250 TL.
