Rice reaches its highest level since October 2008
A rapid rise is being observed in rice prices. Rice prices in Asia have climbed to as high as 650 dollars per ton. India's export restrictions, lower yields due to dry weather, increasing demand, and the effects of El Nino are driving rice prices up.
Rice prices have reached their highest level in 15 years due to rising demand and expectations that grain supplies in Asia and Africa will tighten further under the influence of El Nino.
Rice, a staple food for billions of people, has reached its highest level since October 2008.
The Thai Rice Exporters Association stated that the price of 5 percent broken Thai white rice, considered a benchmark in Asia, increased by 2.5 percent compared to the previous week. This brought the price to 650 dollars per ton.
INDIA AND CLIMATE IMPACT ALSO PRESENT
It is claimed that the main reasons for the rise in rice prices are India's export restrictions and the fact that crops in Thailand are under threat due to dry weather.
