Richmond Fed President warns against rushing interest rate cuts

Richmond Federal Reserve Bank President Tom Barkin stated in an interview with Fox Business that the overall economic outlook is quite positive.

Barkin said, "The economic figures are quite solid. We haven't had an urgency to say that we have an economy heading in the wrong direction. I think that unless there is any urgency, you should go slowly, as if you were driving in the fog."

Noting that uncertainties regarding fiscal policy persist in the business world, Barkin pointed out that companies are acting cautiously during this period. Barkin remarked, "They are definitely not laying people off, but they are not investing either. This means low hiring and low layoffs."

US Federal Reserve officials will hold their next meeting on July 29-30. When asked whether a potential interest rate cut might be on the agenda for the July meeting, Barkin replied, "I never try to predict the next meeting because so much information comes in."
