Russia's confectionery imports from Turkey are rising rapidly
Russia's imports of sweet products from Turkey increased by 50 percent in February 2026 compared to the same month last year, exceeding 11 million dollars.
The confectionery sector has seen a remarkable rise in trade between Turkey and Russia. In the first two months of 2026, sugar-based food products imported by Russia from Turkey increased 1.5-fold compared to the previous year. The total import value thus exceeded the 11 million dollar threshold.
Flour-based products such as cakes, cookies, and wafers took the largest share of this increase with 6.5 million dollars. Chocolate products placed second with 2.6 million dollars, while caramel-based sweets ranked third with 2.2 million dollars in imports.
In January 2026, imports of products containing chocolate and cocoa reached a historic level, hitting 7.4 million dollars. This development once again demonstrated that confectionery factories in Russia are choosing Turkey as a key source country to diversify their raw material supply.
TURKEY IS AT A CRITICAL POINT IN REGIONAL SUPPLY
Industry experts state that there are several main reasons behind Turkey's rise in trade. The first is the strengthening of the process of re-exporting European-origin confectionery products to Russia via Turkey. The second is that, thanks to Turkey's geographical and logistical advantages, shipments have become more attractive in terms of speed and cost.
It is also emphasized that the interest of Russian consumers in Turkish brands has increased significantly in recent years. It is noteworthy that Germany, Italy, and Poland, in particular, are making a name for themselves in shipments from European Union countries to Russia. In contrast, it is noted that confectionery exports from Russia to Turkey remain at low levels.
In light of all these developments, it is clearly emerging that Turkey has become a key hub in the regional supply chain for sugary products.
