Sacrificial animal prices for Eid al-Adha are taking shape: How much will small and large cattle cost?

With only a few days left until Eid al-Adha, livestock farmers across Turkey are accelerating their preparations, while citizens are curious about the prices of sacrificial animals.

Following the high price increases experienced last year, a more balanced market is expected this year. Livestock farmers predict that price increases will remain in the 20-25 percent range.

For small cattle, sheep prices range between 10,000 TL and 18,000 TL, while goats are being sold for between 9,000 TL and 15,000 TL. Rams, on the other hand, can find buyers starting from 12,000 TL up to 20,000 TL. 

STARTING FROM 120,000 TL

For large cattle, heifer prices range between 120,000 TL and 160,000 TL, while bulls can go up to 170,000 TL. Heifers are being sold for between 90,000 TL and 140,000 TL. Final prices are expected in the second week of May.

Producers state that the number of animals this year is sufficient to meet demand, while noting that feed and transportation costs are impacting prices. Approximately 3 million animals are expected to be sacrificed during the 2025 Eid al-Adha, and total spending is estimated to exceed 100 billion TL. Hide revenues are expected to contribute 150 million TL to the economy.

Citizens planning to purchase sacrificial animals are reminded to pay attention to the health status of the animals, their ear tags, and veterinary reports. Additionally, butcher fees have also begun to become clear; 4,000-10,000 TL is being requested for the slaughter of large cattle, while an average of 1,500 TL is requested for small cattle.
