SCT adjustment on labels: Price hikes rain down on alcoholic beverages

Following the announcement of June inflation data by the Turkish Statistical Institute, automatic updates made to Special Consumption Tax (SCT) amounts were reflected on shelves as price hikes. One of the items most affected by the increases was once again alcoholic beverages.

Erol Dündar, President of the Monopoly Dealers Solidarity Association (TBYD), stated in an announcement made via social media that the new price lists have been delivered to points of sale. According to the information shared by Dündar, prices have risen between 12 and 17 percent with the label changes made in markets and kiosks.

The hike rates varied according to the products. For example, the price of a 75 cl gin, previously sold at 1,150 TL, rose to 1,350 TL with a 17.3 percent increase. The price of a 70 cl whiskey was increased by 12.7 percent, going from 1,550 TL to 1,750 TL. A similar increase was experienced in sparkling wine; the price, which was 1,270 TL, reached 1,450 TL with a 14 percent increase. Additionally, the price of one of the most preferred whiskey brands rose to 1,500 TL with a 17.6 percent hike.

The new prices have begun to be applied at alcoholic beverage points of sale.
