Second quarter record in Turkey's tourism revenue

Turkey's tourism revenue increased by 11.8 percent in the second quarter of the year compared to the same period last year, reaching 14 billion 875 million 518 thousand dollars.

Second quarter record in Turkey's tourism revenue

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced tourism statistics for the April-June period of this year.

Accordingly, tourism revenue was recorded at 14 billion 875 million 518 thousand dollars, an increase of 11.8 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year.

15.9 percent of the tourism revenue was obtained from citizens residing abroad who visited the country.

PERSONAL EXPENDITURES AT 10 BILLION 330 MILLION DOLLARS

Visitors organized their trips either personally or through package tours. Of the expenditures made in this quarter, 10 billion 330 million 968 thousand dollars consisted of personal expenditures, while 4 billion 544 million 550 thousand dollars consisted of package tour expenditures.

The number of visitors departing from the country in the second quarter of this year increased by 15 percent compared to the same period last year, rising to 16 million 97 thousand 884 people. Citizens residing abroad accounted for 14.9 percent of these visitors, with 2 million 405 thousand 675 people.

In the quarter in question, the average nightly expenditure of visitors departing from Turkey was 101 dollars. The average nightly expenditure of citizens residing abroad was observed to be 69 dollars.

SHARE OF PACKAGE TOUR EXPENDITURES IS 30 PERCENT

In the April-June period, the share of package tour expenditures in tourism revenue was 30.6 percent, the share of food and beverage expenditures was 18.5 percent, and the share of international transportation expenditures was 12.2 percent. Package tour expenditures increased by 32.5 percent, food and beverage expenditures by 10.6 percent, and international transportation expenditures by 1.9 percent compared to the same period last year.

Visitors came to Turkey most frequently for "travel, entertainment, sports, and cultural activities" at 68.1 percent. "Visiting relatives and friends" ranked second at 19.1 percent, and "shopping" ranked third at 5.4 percent. Citizens residing abroad, on the other hand, came to the country most frequently for "visiting relatives and friends" at 66.5 percent.

TOURISM EXPENDITURES DECREASED BY 3.9 PERCENT

Tourism expenditures, which consist of the spending of citizens residing in the country who visited other countries, decreased by 3.9 percent in the second quarter of the year compared to the same quarter last year, amounting to 1 billion 955 million 807 thousand dollars. Of this, 1 billion 610 million 431 thousand dollars consisted of personal expenditures, and 345 million 377 thousand dollars consisted of package tour expenditures.

In the same period, the number of citizens visiting abroad increased by 3 percent on an annual basis, reaching 2 million 963 thousand 788 people, while the average expenditure per capita was 660 dollars.
