September unemployment rate announced

According to the results of the Turkish Statistical Institute's Household Labour Force Survey; the number of unemployed persons aged 15 and over decreased by 46 thousand in September 2023 compared to the previous month, reaching 3 million 168 thousand people. 

The unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 9.1 percent. The unemployment rate was estimated at 7.5 percent for men and 12.3 percent for women.

EMPLOYMENT RATE ANNOUNCED 

The number of employed persons decreased by 59 thousand in September 2023 compared to the previous month, reaching 31 million 686 thousand people, while the employment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 48.3 percent. This rate was 65.8 percent for men and 31.2 percent for women. The seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate was 53.2 percent.

The labor force decreased by 105 thousand in September 2023 compared to the previous month, reaching 34 million 854 thousand people, and the labor force participation rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 53.2 percent. The labor force participation rate was 71.1 percent for men and 35.6 percent for women.

16.7 PERCENT OF YOUTH ARE UNEMPLOYED

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for the youth population was 16.7 percent.  In the youth population, which covers the 15-24 age group, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous month to 16.7 percent. In this age group, the unemployment rate was estimated at 13.8 percent for men and 22.0 percent for women.
