SGK expert gives a figure for the minimum wage hike!

With the end of the year approaching, millions of employees are eagerly awaiting the raise to be made to the minimum wage. Employees, who want to protect their purchasing power against high inflation, are focused on the predictions of experts.

SGK expert Murat Bal, in a television program he attended, pointed to last year's inflation rates and stated that a similar raise rate could come to the agenda this year as well. Bal reminded that last year, a raise of around 30 percent was made to the minimum wage in response to an inflation rate of 44-45 percent, and expressed that he expects an increase based on the targeted inflation this year as well.

Speaking on Habertürk TV, Bal said, "If a raise is made based on the targeted inflation, it looks like it will be around 25 thousand 500. It looks like it will be that way. It happened this way last year too," emphasizing that raises made without inflation falling would not be able to protect purchasing power.

Furthermore, Bal stated that the hunger threshold is at the 27 thousand TL level according to TUIK data, and argued that salaries should be at least at this level. He spoke as follows: "We are now making statements to the effect that our salaries should at least be at the hunger threshold. In other words, a minimum wage that remains at the hunger threshold continuously for 12 months on one side. We absolutely must protect purchasing power once and for all. We must protect household income. But rent inflation, food inflation, the damage caused by these, unfortunately, brings us to these points."
