Shipment of Tesla vehicles destined for Sweden to be blocked
Fellesforbundet, the largest union representing private sector employees in Norway, announced on Wednesday that starting this month, they will block the shipment of Tesla (TSLA) vehicles destined for the Swedish market. This measure is part of a broader effort across the Nordic region to support technicians currently on strike in Sweden.
The leading Swedish union, IF Metall, launched a strike against Tesla in October to force the American electric car manufacturer to sign a collective bargaining agreement with its technicians.
In Sweden, dockworkers have already refused to unload Tesla cars from ships. Additionally, electricians, cleaning staff, postal workers, and a company that produces car parts in Sweden have pledged not to provide services to Tesla.
Fellesforbundet stated its intention to send a firm message to Tesla and to take the necessary steps to stop the transport of vehicles from Norway to Sweden. However, the union did not detail the specific steps it plans to take to achieve this goal.
Fellesforbundet President Joern Eggum said, "The ability to negotiate collective bargaining agreements is a fundamental aspect of our employment system, and we cannot tolerate Tesla being excluded from this process."
The 3F labor union in Denmark expressed its support for the Swedish technicians on Tuesday, announcing that they would not participate in the unloading or transport of vehicles produced by Tesla and intended for customers in Sweden.
Unions in both Norway and Denmark emphasized that their protests are directed only at Tesla vehicles to be sold in the Swedish market.
The Norwegian union's actions are scheduled to begin on December 20.
