Signal of increase in pensions: A new figure is on the table!

Following the Turkish Statistical Institute's November inflation data coming in below expectations, retirees have turned their eyes to the December inflation figure to be announced on January 5, 2026. 

Economists expect a rate between 0.70 and 0.90 percent for December, based on the Central Bank's expectation surveys and past inflation figures.

Experts remind that according to Social Security Institution legislation, pensions cannot be increased below the inflation rate of the last six months. Information has come to the fore that cumulative inflation for the five-month period from July to November was 11.21 percent.

It is stated that if December inflation is announced in the 0.80 to 0.90 percent range, pension hikes will be determined between 12.10 and 12.25 percent, excluding the welfare share. An increase above 12.5 percent is seen as a weak possibility.

In Ankara's political corridors, more optimistic developments are being discussed regarding the lowest pension. It is stated that new formulas are being considered, especially for retirees with low base salaries. While emphasizing the necessity of narrowing the gap between the minimum wage and the pension, it is noted that raising the lowest pension to the 18,948 TL level or to a symbolic threshold of 20,000 TL has become a high probability. In this context, the final picture will become clear with the inflation data to be announced on January 5.
