Stock market falls sharply, gold gains

While stocks traded on Borsa Istanbul lost an average of 7.43 percent in value on a weekly basis, the dollar/TL rose by 0.70 percent, the euro/TL by 1.40 percent, and the gram selling price of gold by 4.55 percent.

Stock market falls sharply, gold gains

The BIST 100 index, after seeing a low of 7,446.97 and a high of 8,252.32 points, completed the week at 7,510.68 points, losing 7.43 percent in value compared to the previous week's close.

The gram selling price of 24-karat bullion gold traded in the Grand Bazaar rose by 4.55 percent this week to 1,791 liras, while the selling price of Republic gold increased by 4.58 percent to 12,035 liras.

The selling price of quarter gold, which was 2,817 liras last weekend, rose to 2,946 liras.

This week, the US dollar gained 0.70 percent in value to reach 28.0060 liras, while the euro rose by 1.40 percent to 29.6380 liras.

Investment funds lost 0.79 percent and individual pension funds lost 1.41 percent in value this week. When viewed by category, the best-performing investment funds were "Precious Metals" funds with a gain of 4.27 percent.
