Stock market opens higher (March 21, 2024)

At the opening, the BIST 100 index gained 80.82 points and 0.9 percent compared to the previous close, rising to 9,035.94 points.

The banking index rose by 0.93 percent and the holding index by 0.86 percent. Among sector indices, mining was the top gainer with 1.28 percent, while textiles was the top loser with 0.93 percent.

Following a bullish trend yesterday, the BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul completed the day with a 0.28 percent gain at 8,955.12 points.

While global markets followed a positive trend after the US Federal Reserve (Fed) maintained its forecast of 3 interest rate cuts by the end of the year in yesterday's meeting, despite inflation coming in stronger than expected, the monetary policy decisions of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) have become the focus of investors domestically today.

Economists participating in the AA Finance expectation survey expect the TCMB to keep the policy rate unchanged.
