Stock market starts the week with a record (February 19, 2024)

The stock market started the new week with a record.

At the opening, the BIST 100 index gained 71.69 points and 0.77 percent compared to the previous close, reaching 9,322.05 points.

The banking index recorded an increase of 0.57 percent and the holding index rose by 0.54 percent. While all sector indices rose, the biggest gainer was chemicals, petroleum, and plastics with 1.23 percent.

On Friday, the BIST 100 index at Borsa Istanbul, which followed a volatile course, completed the day with a 0.09 percent gain at 9,250.36 points, achieving the highest daily and weekly close of all time.

Analysts stated that global equity markets started the week cautiously, especially with the earnings reports of major companies such as Nvidia and Walmart in the US to be announced, and noted that eyes in the country have turned to the interest rate decision of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) on Thursday.

Stating that the data agenda abroad is calm today, and that short-term external debt and labor force statistics will be followed domestically, analysts noted that from a technical perspective, the 9,400 and 9,500 levels are resistance, while the 9,200 and 9,100 levels are support for the BIST 100 index.
