Strict inspections ahead of Eid al-Adha: Over 389 million TL in fines imposed on over a thousand businesses
As Eid al-Adha approaches, the Ministry of Trade has accelerated its inspections of businesses engaging in exorbitant price hikes. In this context, a total of 389 million 430 thousand 962 TL in administrative fines were imposed on 1,258 companies in the first four months of the year.
The Ministry of Trade has implemented significant sanctions regarding businesses found to be charging exorbitant prices as part of its market surveillance conducted between January and April 2026. According to the statement made by the Ministry, 1,258 businesses were fined a total of 389 million 430 thousand 962 lira during the same period for engaging in unfair price increases.
In the announcement made by the institution, it was stated that inspections have been intensified, especially during the days when market activity increases ahead of Eid al-Adha. The Ministry of Trade's statement included the following: "The Ministry of Trade is increasing market inspections ahead of the approaching Eid al-Adha, accelerating the fight against unfair pricing practices: As part of the fight against exorbitant price increases by the Unfair Price Evaluation Board, administrative fines totaling 389.5 million TL were imposed on 1,258 businesses in the first 4 months of 2026."
The Ministry stated that price controls will continue to be increased in both supermarkets and various other sectors to ensure consumers are not victimized, and that citizens' complaints regarding exorbitant prices are also being taken into account. It was emphasized that market inspections will continue to be carried out strictly in the coming period.
