Striking report from the IMF: 'The economic situation in Turkey is affecting the world'
According to a report prepared by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), domestic economic shocks in G20 emerging economies, including Turkey, are increasingly impacting global growth.
In a section of the World Economic Outlook report published by the IMF, it was stated that "since 2000, domestic shocks in G20 emerging markets—especially China—have deeply shaken advanced economies, and this impact is becoming increasingly profound."
The report underscored that shocks experienced in China have affected the output of emerging countries by 10 percent and the output of advanced countries by 5 percent.
The report also emphasized that shocks occurring in G20 emerging markets, including Turkey, have affected advanced economies by 4 percent.
RISK OF SPILLOVER TO ADVANCED COUNTRIES
According to the report, as cited in news by Ekonomim, the 10 emerging economies in the G20 (Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Turkey) have more than doubled their total share of global GDP since 2000. The report noted that the risk of shocks, particularly those in China, spilling over to advanced countries has increased threefold.
The report further highlighted that the risks of shocks in Brazil, India, and Mexico spilling over to advanced countries have also seen a moderate increase.
