Tax on free meals and gifts for social media influencers! The rate has been set
A 15 percent tax obligation has been imposed on social media content creators for meals they consume for free for promotional purposes and products they receive as gifts. Even if no cash payment is received in exchange for promotion, tax will be paid on the value of the product or service.
The fourth "responsible social media influencer training" program, organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, and the Advertising Self-Regulatory Board, was held. The day-long program, which took place at the Tax Inspection Board's service building in Istanbul, was attended by content creators with 100,000 or more followers on social media platforms.
Within the scope of the training, many topics ranging from ethical principles to legal regulations on social media were discussed. During the program, while new decisions were shared with the participants, information was provided that, in line with the regulation, content creators will pay tax for PR products received from brands and meals consumed during venue promotions.
15 PERCENT TAX WILL BE APPLIED
According to the report by Akşam, influencers will deposit the value of the products gifted to them or the meals they consume as part of promotions into their accounts that hold an exemption certificate, and 15 percent of this amount will be deducted as tax. In the program, the work carried out by the Ministry of Trade within the framework of the "Action Plan for Combating Illegal Betting in the Digital Environment" was also explained. Influencers were also informed about the new sanctions to be implemented in order to prevent the use of social media platforms for the promotion of illegal betting and gambling activities.
