The country that invests the most in Turkey has been identified
While European countries stand out in direct investments in Turkey, a notable increase has also been recorded in capital inflows from the Gulf and Asian regions.
While international investors' interest in Turkey continued in the first two months of the year, the latest data released shows that the total volume of direct investment reached 1.5 billion dollars. The total amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) since 2003 has exceeded 289 billion dollars.
FDI inflows to Turkey in February 2026 reached the 780 million dollar level. During this period, 370 million dollars in resources were transferred under the name of investment capital. In other categories, 513 million dollars entered the Turkish economy through debt instruments, and 230 million dollars through real estate sales to foreigners. However, it was reported that investment liquidations had a negative impact of 333 million dollars on total FDI.
From a sectoral perspective, 18 percent of investment capital, amounting to 65 million dollars, was channeled into the information and communication sector in February. Financial and insurance activities also drew attention with a 17 percent share. Wholesale and retail trade ranked in the top three with a 14 percent share. When evaluating the first two months of the year, wholesale and retail trade became the sector attracting the most capital with 146 million dollars in investment, while the electronics manufacturing sector also drew attention with investments reaching 143 million dollars.
While EU countries accounted for a 59 percent share of total investments in Turkey between 2003 and 2025, this rate was recorded at 35 percent in the first quarter of 2026. In February, the United Arab Emirates took the top spot on a country basis with an 18 percent share. It was followed by Singapore with 15 percent, the USA with 15 percent, Germany with 14 percent, and Spain with 9 percent, respectively.
In the total for the first two months of 2026, Germany took the top spot with an investment volume of 198 million dollars, while the Netherlands with 118 million dollars and the UAE with 95 million dollars ranked high on the list.
