The date has been set: Water discount coming to İzmir

The May 2026 Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the İZSU General Directorate, affiliated with the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, was held under the leadership of Mayor Cemil Tugay. The institution's activity reports, budget accounts, and new-term tariffs were discussed at the meeting.

WATER TARIFF CHANGES IN THE NEW TERM

At the General Assembly, İZSU's 2025 activity report, balance sheet, final accounts, and regulations regarding the organizational structure were evaluated. Drought, the climate crisis, the cleaning of the Gulf, and infrastructure investments were among the prominent topics during the discussions.

Furthermore, the new water tariff to be applied starting June 1 was accepted by majority vote at the meeting. While the 2025 budget final accounts were read one by one and approved, it was stated that for the first time in many years, İZSU's revenues exceeded its expenditures.

DISCOUNTED USAGE LIMIT INCREASED

According to the regulation accepted at the İZSU General Assembly, the discounted first tier for residential subscribers, which was previously applied as 0-4 cubic meters, has been increased to 0-6 cubic meters as of June 1, 2026. In the new tariff, the price per cubic meter of water in this tier has been set at 25 TL.

Evaluating the decision, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay stated, “In the first council meeting after we took office, we made a 25 percent discount on water, and we have not raised prices since that day. Now, we are ensuring that the first 6 cubic meters of water can be used at a discount instead of the first 4 cubic meters. We are reducing the base consumption price from 33 liras to 25 liras. İzmir will now have one of the most affordable water tariffs in Turkey. We continue our efforts to facilitate our citizens' access to water, which is a fundamental right.”

NEW FEES FOR RESIDENCES AND WORKPLACES

According to the new tariff, the total fee for residential subscribers, including water and wastewater, will be 60 TL for usage between 0-10 cubic meters. In the system where tiered pricing continues, the unit price will increase as consumption increases.

The total fee will be applied as 99.83 TL for usage between 11-20 cubic meters, and 145 TL for usage between 21-40 cubic meters. For consumption over 41 cubic meters, the total fee has been fixed at the 201.90 TL level.

While the total fee for the first tier for workplace subscribers was announced as 120 TL, the fee will rise up to 403.79 TL for consumption over 41 cubic meters.

DISCOUNT CONTINUES FOR AGRICULTURAL IRRIGATION

In the new tariff, the discounted application for agricultural irrigation and livestock subscribers also continued. Accordingly, the total fee for usage between 0-25 cubic meters will be applied as 17.96 TL.

Additionally, usage fees for reclaimed water were also determined. A fee of 0.33 TL per cubic meter will be applied for agricultural use, 8.96 TL for public areas such as parks and cemeteries, and 11.95 TL for industrial use.
