The investment vehicle that gained the most for investors in May has been announced

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) has shared the real return rates of financial investment vehicles for the May 2025 period with the public. According to TURKSTAT data, the highest monthly real return was achieved in deposit interest (gross).

When adjusted for inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), deposit interest provided investors with a real gain of 1.80%. When calculated according to the Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI), this rate was 0.86%. This performance made deposit interest the top-performing financial vehicle of the month.

GOLD, DOLLAR, AND THE STOCK MARKET CAUSED LOSSES

According to TURKSTAT data, other investment vehicles succumbed to inflation in May.

The Borsa Istanbul (BIST 100) index caused a real loss of 2.74% for investors based on the CPI.

The US Dollar (Dollar/TL) resulted in a real loss of 1.15%.

The real return of gold (gram) was also negative; it caused investors to lose value against inflation.

These results revealed that deposit interest was the only vehicle that protected its investors in May.

WHAT DOES REAL RETURN MEAN?

Real return is calculated by subtracting the effect of inflation from the nominal gain of an investment vehicle. It is an important indicator for measuring actual profit. For example, an investment vehicle that provides a 6% gain only offers a 1% real return if inflation is 5%.
