The most expensive fruits and vegetables of March in Istanbul have been identified

A comprehensive table regarding the fruits and vegetables most preferred by citizens in Istanbul's two major wholesale markets in March, along with their prices, has been revealed. While a total of 183 thousand 654 tons of fruits and vegetables were sold, oranges and tomatoes stood out in particular.

Based on data from the Bayrampaşa and Ataşehir fruit and vegetable wholesale markets, over 46 thousand tons of fruit and over 92 thousand tons of vegetables were processed at the Bayrampaşa Market in March. At the Ataşehir Market, approximately 16 thousand 600 tons of fruit and 28 thousand 400 tons of vegetables were offered to the market. The total amount of products sold in the two markets exceeded 183 thousand tons.

In March, Istanbul residents preferred oranges the most among fruits. 10 thousand 785 tons of oranges were sold at the Bayrampaşa Market and 3 thousand 804 tons at the Ataşehir Market; a total of approximately 14 thousand 600 tons of oranges found buyers. Oranges were followed by products such as bananas, apples, tangerines, lemons, and strawberries.

In vegetables, the leadership of tomatoes drew attention. A total of approximately 24 thousand 655 tons of tomatoes were delivered to citizens in Bayrampaşa and Ataşehir. After tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, carrots, peppers, and onions were among the best-selling items.

The prices per kilogram of the products also varied. While oranges were sold at an average of 31.25 liras per kilogram, bananas at 70.94 liras, and apples at 66.95 liras, the price of strawberries rose to 142.50 liras per kilogram. The average price per kilogram of tomatoes reached 112.81 liras. Products such as potatoes, onions, and carrots remained in the 12 to 18 lira range.

Among fruits and vegetables, the most striking product in terms of price was green almonds. In March, green almonds topped the list with 353.13 liras per kilogram. Green almonds were followed by plums at 303.39 liras, black grapes at 255.94 liras, green beans at 204.06 liras, and white grapes at 195.31 liras. Other high-priced products included loquats, brined vine leaves, mulberries, and mushrooms.

Both the variety of products and the increase in prices were reflected in the kitchens of Istanbul residents. While 77 different products were sold in the two major markets in March, products in the seasonal transition period particularly occupied the top spots on the price lists.
