The salary increase table for civil servants and retirees has changed: How much will salaries be?

According to a report in the pro-government newspaper Sabah, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek has drawn up a roadmap for permanent purchasing power and welfare growth. With fiscal discipline and the Medium-Term Program (OVP) setting the primary agenda, the economic management and Şimşek's agenda include 3 important items, primarily concerning retiree and civil servant salaries.

Millions looking for clues regarding the January raise have once again turned to calculations following the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey's (TCMB) October Survey of Market Participants. In the survey, economists' 2023 inflation forecast was revised to 68.01 percent. Accordingly, the Consumer Price Index is expected to rise to the 1895.91 level.

6-MONTH INFLATION FORECAST HAS BEEN DETERMINED

According to the calculation, the 6-month inflation figure is expected to be 40.27 percent. The 6-month inflation figure represents the January raise for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees, excluding the welfare share. Civil servants, on the other hand, will receive their new salaries with the 6-month inflation difference and a 15 percent collective bargaining raise.

JANUARY RAISE TABLE FOR RETIREES AND CIVIL SERVANTS

According to the Central Bank's newly announced annual inflation expectation of 68.01 percent, the raise calculations for civil servants and retirees are as follows:

• 6-month inflation rate: 40.27 percent

• 6-month SSK and Bağ-Kur retiree raise excluding welfare share: 40.27 percent

• 6-month civil servant inflation difference: 32.33 percent

• Civil servant collective bargaining raise: 15 percent

• 6-month civil servant raise: 52.17 percent

The civil servant raise rate will serve as a reference for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirement pensions

The civil servant raise, which is expected to exceed 50 percent with the collective bargaining raise and inflation difference, is expected to serve as a reference when determining the retiree raise in January. The figures indicate that SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees will receive a raise of around 40 percent in January.

Regarding the raise for retirees, a welfare share of around 10 points in addition to the January raise will be on the table. After the Ministry completes its budget work, it will submit the raise table to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for approval. Erdoğan will make the final decision.

THE LOWEST RETIREMENT PENSION WILL ALSO INCREASE

The lowest retirement pension, which was increased from 3500 TL to 7500 TL with an increase of over 114 percent in 2023, will increase again in January. Here, the payments of retirees receiving less than 7500 TL are topped up to this level with Treasury support. This figure is also expected to increase by around 40-50 percent in January. A parliamentary regulation is required for the increase of the lowest retirement pension.

According to the 15 percent collective bargaining raise and the 32.33 percent inflation difference calculated based on the September Survey of Market Participants, the table for civil servant and retiree salaries has emerged.
