The sell-off continues: Public lands are next in line

Under the AKP government, major institutions have been sold off to foreign and domestic capital through privatizations. The government, in need of immediate cash, has now taken the next step: putting public lands up for sale. The sales, signaled by Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, have begun across 44 provinces.

As the economic crisis deepens, the government, which has been trying to generate revenue by selling public assets, is now offloading public lands. According to a report by Havva Gümüşkaya from Birgün newspaper, the minimum value set by TOKİ for the 622 plots of land put up for auction across 44 provinces is 5.8 billion TL.

Gümüşkaya's report included the following statements:

The Housing Development Administration (TOKİ), affiliated with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, has put 622 plots of land up for sale in 44 provinces, including Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, and Çanakkale. The lands, which are designated for industrial, tourism, residential, and commercial use, will be sold via auction on November 21-22-23.

The sales will be conducted with a 25 percent down payment and a 24-month installment plan. The total base price (minimum value) determined for the plots is 5 billion 588 million 655 thousand TL. In Antalya alone, the total value of the lands put up for sale, based on the minimum asking price, is 1 billion 290 million.

FROM ANTALYA, WHERE 22 PERCENT OF THE LANDS ARE LOCATED

The areas put up for sale in Antalya are as follows:

• 139 plots of land in Konyaaltı

• 116 plots of land in Çağlarca, located in the high hills of Konyaaltı, with a total area of 67 thousand 989 square meters, the largest of which is 1 thousand 629 square meters

• An area of 110 thousand 954 square meters in Alanya, intended for the establishment of a health tourism facility, at a price of 7 thousand liras per square meter. This is also the second-largest plot of land put up for sale.

OTHER LANDS PUT UP FOR SALE BY TOKİ

• A total area of 211 thousand 296 square meters in the Şahinbey district of Antep, partially designated as a development residential area, partially as a social facility area, and partially as a park, for 211 million 296 thousand TL

• 39 plots of land in Çanakkale, 38 of which are in the Ayvacık district, designated as residential and non-residential urban work areas, for 456 million 911 thousand TL

• A 10 thousand 534 square meter daily tourism facility area in Altınkum, Aydın Didim, for 83 million 319 thousand TL

• A 6 thousand 973 square meter daily facility area in İzmir Çeşme for 142 million 249 thousand TL,

• A 9 thousand 500 square meter preferential tourism area in Dikili İsmetpaşa for 171 million TL,

• A 10 thousand 583 square meter tourism area in Dikili Denizköy for 15 million 874 thousand TL

• 43 plots of land designated as tourism facility areas, 24 of which are in Nevşehir Kozaklı, for 1 billion 608 million TL

TREASURY PROPERTIES ARE ALSO ON SALE

In addition to TOKİ's sales, the Privatization Administration also recently put 12 properties in 10 provinces up for sale. According to the decision published in the Official Gazette on November 11, it was announced that 12 properties in the central district of Afyonkarahisar, Kuşadası in Aydın, Karacabey in Bursa, Palandöken in Erzurum, Şehitkamil in Antep, Kartal in Istanbul, Konak in İzmir, Arifiye in Sakarya, Ovacık in Dersim, and the central district of Yalova would be privatized through sale. It was announced that the properties would be sold through tenders conducted via the bargaining method.
