The BIST 100 index on Borsa Istanbul experienced a volatile week following the long holiday break. Amid global geopolitical developments, stocks that saw both gains and losses stood out throughout the week.

The surprise of the week on the stock market: One stock soared by 27 percent

While tensions between the US and Iran continue to create uncertainty in the markets, international developments in the field of artificial intelligence were also closely monitored. Investors, who returned from a long break last week due to the Eid al-Adha holiday, generally encountered a sideways trend in the stock market. However, despite losing value in the last three days of the week, the BIST 100 index recorded a small increase on a weekly basis.

The BIST 100 index continues its 22 percent rise since the beginning of the year. In the week of June 1-5, the index rose by 0.23 percent. Starting the week at 13,722 points, the index finished the week at 13,694 points. During the weekly trading range, the lowest level seen was 13,675 points, while the highest level reached was 14,219 points.

In a sector-based evaluation, the banking index gained 1.25 percent, the holding index gained 0.69 percent, and the industrial index gained 0.46 percent.

TOP GAINERS AND LOSERS

Last week, the stock that provided the highest return to its investors on the BIST 100 was Borusan Boru Sanayi (BRSAN). BRSAN shares showed an increase of 27.61 percent. It was followed by Kiler Holding (KLRHO) with a 20.77 percent increase and Katılım Evim (KTLEV) with a 17.67 percent rise.

On the other hand, the stock that fell the most during the week was Margün Enerji (MAGEN). MAGEN shares declined by 16.78 percent. İzdemir Enerji (IZENR) lost 15.04 percent and Ral Yatırım Holding (RALYH) lost 12.80 percent in value.

Looking at the market values of companies traded on the BIST 100, Aselsan (ASELS) maintained its position as the most valuable company with a size of 1 trillion 655 billion 280 million TL. It was followed by Destek Finans Faktoring (DSTKF) with approximately 775 billion TL and Enka İnşaat (ENKAI) with 560 billion TL.

In terms of trading volume, Astor Enerji (ASTOR) took the first place, reaching a total trading volume of 75 billion 195 million TL. Akbank (AKBNK) and Aselsan (ASELS) ranked high in terms of volume with 51 billion 342 million TL and 60 billion 438 million TL, respectively.

This volatility in the markets may continue in the coming weeks depending on global and local developments.
