The Turkish Statistical Institute has announced the price hike champions of June

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has shared with the public the list of products showing the highest and lowest price changes within the scope of the consumer price index (CPI) for June. According to the released data, some fresh fruits and vegetables stood out with remarkable price increases on the shelves, particularly due to seasonal effects.

According to CPI data, the largest price increase in the market basket in June was recorded in the "other fresh fruits" category at 54.26 percent. This increase was followed by the tuberous vegetables group at 44.55 percent. In the "other fresh or chilled vegetables" (such as onions, garlic, carrots, mushrooms, and olives) category, a price rise of 17.35 percent drew attention.

Beyond price increases, significant price decreases were also observed in some products. The product group with the sharpest decline in price in June was announced as fresh or chilled vegetables consumed as fruit (such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and zucchini) with a 37.64 percent drop. Other products that saw price decreases in June were also included in the ranking.

In the report shared by TÜİK, it was stated that these fluctuations in consumer prices were mainly influenced by seasonal agricultural production, supply-demand balance, and weather conditions. Officials emphasize that such fluctuations are frequently observed, especially during the summer months.

Consumers, for their part, state that they are paying attention to the volatility in fresh product prices during their grocery shopping. It is estimated that similar volatility in prices may continue in the coming months.
