Those hiding rental income are in trouble: Artificial intelligence is active! Penalties will be issued after that date

The Ministry of Treasury and Finance has reminded that the final three-day period for filing 2025 income tax returns has begun. Officials, who want earnings obtained this year to be declared completely and accurately, emphasized that notifications must be made by March 31.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AUDITS ARE ACTIVE

The Revenue Administration announced that it has begun actively using advanced artificial intelligence systems to detect income that has not been declared or has been under-declared. Through the system, discrepancies between the tax return and actual income are quickly uncovered.

WHO IS REQUIRED TO FILE A TAX RETURN?

Those who earn rental income, in particular, as well as holders of wage income, movable capital income such as interest or dividends, and citizens with capital gains are required to file their tax returns within the legal timeframe.

CRITICAL WARNING FROM ŞİMŞEK

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek drew attention to the fact that the deadline is approaching and made the following statement:

"Thanks to advanced analysis and comparison systems, inconsistencies between declarations and income can be detected quickly and effectively. It is important for our taxpayers to review their declarations and complete any deficiencies without waiting for the last-minute rush to avoid facing any penal actions."

PENAL SANCTIONS ON THE AGENDA

Minister Şimşek emphasized that in cases of incorrect or non-existent notifications, taxpayers may face sanctions such as tax assessments with penalties, tax loss penalties, and late interest.

EMPHASIS ON COMBATING THE INFORMAL ECONOMY

Touching on the importance of voluntary tax compliance, Şimşek stated that the fight against the informal economy will continue uninterrupted in order to ensure the sustainability of public finance and tax justice. The Minister also noted that the goal is to create a more effective, fair, and transparent tax system through digitalization and AI-supported audits.
