Turkey's choice for the new year is chicken

With only a few days left until the New Year, meals to be prepared for New Year's Eve are already being thought about and planned. As the price of turkey, a New Year's staple, has risen to as much as 1,500 liras due to increasing demand, citizens have turned to chicken, saying "it's fine without turkey."

HasTavuk AŞ. Sales and Marketing Manager Orkun Şenyurt said, "Even though turkey is a staple of New Year's tables all over the world, in Turkey, chicken is the king of tables hosting guests on this special evening. Research shows that the Turkish public's preference is chicken. While 80 percent prefer chicken for their New Year's table, a 20 percent segment consumes turkey and red meat."

Stating that there are many reasons for choosing chicken, Şenyurt said, "At the top of these are features such as the difficulty of cooking a turkey, its large size, chicken being more economical than turkey, cooking in a shorter time, its suitability for portioning, its practicality, being easy to flavor, and being more suitable for the Turkish palate."
