Turkey's F-16 system supplier announced: 'We will supply more than 150'

Following the approval of Sweden's NATO membership and the US administration's authorization for the sale of 40 new-generation F-16 Block 70 aircraft and modernization kits, a statement has come from the US defense company.

Northrop Grumman Vice President James Conroy, whose company is among the defense giants with an annual revenue of 30 billion dollars and is listed among the world's most valuable companies in the Fortune 500, announced that they will modernize Turkey's F-16s with the newest electronic warfare system, the AN/ALQ-257 Integrated Viper Electronic Warfare Suite (IVEWS). Conroy also stated that this modernization is the largest foreign military sale for their company. Conroy said, "We will deliver more than 150 electronic warfare systems to Turkey for its new F-16s and existing F-16s."

The system, called the AN/ALQ-257 Integrated Viper Electronic Warfare Suite or IVEWS, allows the F-16 to counter threats using modern radio frequencies and to locate and destroy weapons with more advanced sensors.

The US Air Force selected Northrop Grumman in 2019 to begin creating a design prototype for the F-16's new electronic warfare system. In January 2021, the Air Force turned to Northrop to complete the project as the sole contractor. Northrop signed a contract with the Air Force in May 2022 to prepare IVEWS for development testing and full hardware qualification. The company tested the system in April 2023 and received approval from the US.
