The lawsuit filed against the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) over allegations that it "caused grievances for millions of workers, civil servants, and retirees by reporting lower inflation figures" begins tomorrow. This will be the first time TurkStat appears before a judge.
Honorary Member of the Court of Cassation Seyfettin Çilesiz filed the lawsuit, and the hearing will take place tomorrow (Monday) at 09:30 at the Ankara 6th Administrative Court.
According to the report by Erdoğan Süzer from Sözcü, former TurkStat President Birol Aydemir will also be heard as a witness in the case.
Ali Erdem Gündoğan, the lawyer for Çilesiz, stated that many retirees would come to Ankara for the trial and that crowds would form in the courtroom. Gündoğan made the following statement:
“Citizens with low and fixed incomes who have been treated unfairly due to the announced inflation figures want to see TurkStat being tried, listen to its defense, and witness this historic event. We hope that the case will result in favor of the retirees and that the losses in raises will be compensated retroactively.”
Executives from 8 retiree associations and labor unions, whose requests to intervene in the case were previously rejected, will also be present at the hearing. Additionally, deputy chairmen, senior executives, and members of parliament from various political parties will follow the proceedings.
