TZOB President Bayraktar evaluates 2023 and December producer and market prices
Union of Turkish Chambers of Agriculture (TZOB) President Şemsi Bayraktar stated, "In December 2023, compared to the same month of the previous year, price increases occurred in all 41 products monitored in the market."
Union of Turkish Chambers of Agriculture (TZOB) President Şemsi Bayraktar evaluated the price differences between producers and the market in 2023 and December.
Stating that "In December 2023, compared to the same month of the previous year, price increases occurred in all 41 products monitored in the market," Bayraktar continued as follows:
“The product with the highest price increase in the market was zucchini with 156.3 percent. The price increase in zucchini was followed by green onions with 152.5 percent, parsley with 146.4 percent, olive oil with 141.9 percent, and eggplant with 138.5 percent. Zucchini, olive oil, apples, cucumbers, green peppers, and raisins, whose production decreased compared to the previous year, were the products with the highest price increases."
Bayraktar reported that the highest price increase at the producer level in 2023 was seen in zucchini with 365.9 percent, noting that the price increase in zucchini was followed by olive oil with 263.1 percent, apples with 200 percent, cucumbers with 159 percent, and green peppers with 152.2 percent. Mentioning that decreases were observed in producer prices for tangerines, lemons, oranges, and dry onions, Bayraktar stated, "At the producer level, prices fell by 63 percent for tangerines, 57.1 percent for lemons, 31.9 percent for dry onions, and 2.3 percent for oranges. Despite these decreases, it was noteworthy that prices in the market increased by 29.5 percent for oranges, 20.8 percent for tangerines, 15.8 percent for dry onions, and 0.5 percent for lemons."
Monthly price changes
Bayraktar stated that in December, compared to the previous month, the price difference between the producer and the market was highest in tangerines with 408.5 percent, followed by lemons with 407.4 percent, oranges with 277.8 percent, and dry onions with 243 percent, adding, "Tangerines and lemons were sold for 5 times more, oranges for 4 times more, and dry onions and lettuce for 3.5 times more."
Stating that price increases were observed in 30 of the 42 products monitored in markets in December, while price decreases were seen in 12, Bayraktar noted the following:
"The product with the highest price increase in the market was eggplant with 54.5 percent. The price increase in eggplant was followed by green beans with 54 percent, lettuce with 46.7 percent, cucumbers with 30.1 percent, and spinach with 27.3 percent. The product with the highest price decrease in the market was corn oil with 16 percent. The price decrease in corn oil was followed by oranges with 11.8 percent, chickpeas with 9.1 percent, leeks with 7.3 percent, sunflower oil with 4.2 percent, and potatoes with 3.5 percent.”
Bayraktar pointed out that in December, while price increases occurred in 23 of the 34 products monitored in producer prices and price decreases were seen in 3, there was no price change in 8 products, noting that the highest price decrease at the producer level was 20.5 percent in white cabbage, and the highest price increase was 58.5 percent in lettuce.
Evaluating the changes in input prices as well, Bayraktar requested that inputs such as fertilizer, feed, electricity, and agricultural pesticides be provided to producers at reasonable prices.
