Unemployment at 9 percent in November! Increase in youth unemployment....

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced the unemployment data for November. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 9.0%.

According to the results of the Household Labour Force Survey, the number of unemployed persons aged 15 and over increased by 115 thousand in November 2023 compared to the previous month, reaching 3 million 116 thousand. The unemployment rate increased by 0.4 percentage points to 9.0%. The unemployment rate was estimated at 7.5% for men and 11.8% for women.

INCREASE IN YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT

The unemployment rate for the youth population, covering the 15-24 age group, increased by 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous month, reaching 16.5%. In this age group, the unemployment rate was estimated at 14.2% for men and 20.7% for women.

WEEKLY WORKING HOURS AT 43.8 HOURS

The seasonally and calendar-adjusted average actual weekly working hours of those employed and at work during the reference period decreased by 0.2 hours in November 2023 compared to the previous month, standing at 43.8 hours.

IDLE LABOR FORCE AT 22.7 PERCENT

The idle labor force rate, consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force, and the unemployed, increased by 1.3 percentage points in November 2023 compared to the previous month, reaching 22.7%. While the combined rate of time-related underemployment and the unemployed was 14.9%, the combined rate of the unemployed and the potential labor force was estimated at 17.3%.
