US pressure on banks in Turkey regarding 'Russia'

Following Russia's launch of the war against Ukraine, the US and European Union countries began implementing sanctions against Russia.

It has been stated that banks in Turkey, which are facing increasing pressure from the US due to transactions with Russia, are regularly receiving warnings that payment sources must be strictly controlled.

'PRESSURE ON BANKS IN TURKEY IS INCREASING'

A source with knowledge of the financial market reported to Sputnik that the US is increasing pressure on banks in Turkey in the context of the latest sanctions it has imposed on Russia.

The source stated, "In the context of the latest US sanctions against Russia, our banks, whether state-owned or private, are currently facing increasing pressure from the US. All transfer sources to and from Russia are being audited. Bank accounts (belonging to Russian citizens) are being opened under the increased control of their head offices."

'THE WEST AIMS TO DESTROY RUSSIA-TURKEY ECONOMIC COOPERATION'

Stating that it is not yet clear when bank transfers between the two countries will return to normal, the source noted that an "official decision" is needed for this, but no such decision has been made yet.

Previously, Russia's Ambassador to Ankara, Aleksey Yerhov, had reported that problems in bank transactions between Russia and Turkey were continuing. Explaining that situations such as the blocking of transfers, the closing of accounts, and the 'exclusion' of companies transporting goods to Russia are increasing, Yerhov had noted that the West aims to destroy Russia-Turkey trade and economic cooperation.
