US to visit Turkey with Hamas and Russia on the agenda
The US Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence will visit Turkey with Hamas and Russia on the agenda.
According to a Bloomberg report, Brian Nelson, the US Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, will visit Turkey this week to hold talks regarding his country's sanctions on Russian entities and the activities of Hamas.
This will be Nelson's second visit to Turkey this year.
According to sources speaking to Bloomberg, Nelson will ask Turkey to comply with unilateral US sanctions targeting certain Russian entities and the financial activities of Hamas.
Last month, the US Treasury decided to expand its list of sanctioned individuals in Turkey, accusing them of providing support and funding to Hamas, which is designated as a terrorist organization by the US and the European Union.
Washington has imposed sanctions on approximately a dozen Turkish firms and several individuals on the grounds that they managed investment portfolios on behalf of Hamas or helped Russia evade sanctions.
Sources speaking to Bloomberg also stated that the US has warned some Turkish companies about potential sanctions that could sever their ties with the Western financial system.
