Vice President Yılmaz's statement on unemployment: 'Since 2005...'

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz evaluated the labor force statistics for April from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) in a statement on his social media account.

Stating that they continue to see the positive results of the program they are implementing with determination, Cevdet Yılmaz reported that according to seasonally adjusted data, the unemployment figure for April 2024 continues to decrease, standing at 8.5 percent.

Yılmaz noted that the unemployment rate, which performed well compared to the previous month and the Medium-Term Program (OVP) expectations, decreased by 1.5 points compared to April of last year, and that employment in April 2024 increased by 983 thousand people compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 32.6 million people.

"THIS POSITIVE TREND IS PROMISING"

Stating that youth and female employment are among the issues they follow closely, Cevdet Yılmaz noted the following:

"In April, the youth unemployment rate is at its lowest level since 2005, when monthly youth unemployment data began to be published, at 14.5 percent. For women, unemployment decreased by 2.9 points on an annual basis to 11.1 percent. This positive trend in youth and female employment is promising on the path to increasing the potential of our economy.

As we progress through the disinflation period we have entered, we will continue to mobilize labor potential with sustainable and high-quality growth, create new employment opportunities, and increase the long-term welfare of our citizens."
