An important partnership between Turkey and Ukraine!

Ukraine has officially included the Hetman Ivan Mazepa, the first Ada-class corvette built in cooperation with Turkey, in its Navy inventory.

Built at the STM shipyard in Istanbul, the corvette is named after the 17th-century Ukrainian leader Hetman Ivan Mazepa, who fought against the Russian Tsar Peter. The Hetman Ivan Mazepa is considered Ukraine's first truly modern warship.

THE SECOND CORVETTE IS ALSO ON THE WAY

The second ship of the series, the Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi, was launched recently at a ceremony held in Turkey. Both corvettes were designed for both surface and anti-submarine warfare and are equipped with advanced weapon systems.

Ukraine Launches Its Second Corvette Built in Cooperation with Turkey

On the occasion of Ukraine's Navy Day, while once again emphasizing our country's determination to protect its sovereignty and maritime security, we are honored to share with the public an important development arising from the strategic cooperation we have established with our Turkish friends in the field of the defense industry.

Ukraine has included its first Ada-class corvette in its modern warship inventory with a historic step. The Hetman Ivan Mazepa, built within the scope of defense industry cooperation with Turkey, has successfully completed its sea trials and officially joined the Ukrainian Navy inventory. This development is considered a turning point that will significantly increase Ukraine's naval power in its struggle against Russia in the Black Sea.

Built in Istanbul by the Turkish shipyard STM and named after the 17th-century Ukrainian leader Hetman Ivan Mazepa, who fought against the Russian Tsar Peter, the corvette holds the distinction of being Ukraine's first fully modern warship.

Following the Mazepa, the second ship of the series, the Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi, was also launched recently at a ceremony held in Turkey.

Both corvettes were designed for surface and anti-submarine warfare. The ships are equipped with eight US-made Harpoon anti-ship missiles and MU90 torpedoes. Thanks to this technological equipment, Ukraine aims to operate not only in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov but also in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

Within the framework of the agreement signed with Turkey in December 2020, while two corvettes are being built in Turkey, it is planned that two optional ships will be produced in Ukraine at the shipyard in Mykolaiv. In this way, it is also aimed for Ukraine to revive its own shipbuilding capability and reduce its foreign dependency in the defense industry.

These two modern corvettes, which are symbols of Ukraine's vision to rebuild its naval power, stand out as one of the successfully implemented examples of the defense cooperation maintained with Turkey.
