Matsusaka breed cattle sold for $202,000 at auction in Japan

In Japan, a Matsusaka breed cow (Wagyu) was sold at auction for 30 million yen ($202,000).

According to a report by the state broadcaster NHK, an auction for local breeds was held in Mie Prefecture, a region known for its premium marbled beef.

The auction featured 50 cattle, which were graded by 9 jurors from the Mie Prefectural Livestock Research Institute based on size, coat, and overall physical balance.

The 676-kilogram Matsusaka breed cow, named "Hiroko No.1," found a buyer for 30 million yen ($202,000).

HIGHEST PURCHASE PRICE IN THE LAST 8 YEARS

This was recorded as the highest purchase price in the last 8 years. The "Asahiya" butcher shop from the Tsu region of Mie became the new owner of the cow.

'THE PRICE SURPRISED ME'

Japanese breeder Nakamura Kazuaki from the Taiki region, who raised the cow, stated, "The unexpectedly high price surprised me. I am happy that my efforts in caring for the cattle have paid off, and I want to raise even better cattle."
