Competition Authority launches investigation into 19 private schools over exorbitant fees

It has been learned that 19 private schools operating across Turkey have been placed under investigation by the Competition Authority due to high pricing set for registration and ancillary service fees. Intense applications from parents of students led to the initiation of a significant investigation into the fee policies at these schools.

During the process, allegations are being investigated that private schools are applying exorbitant price hikes not only to tuition fees but also to additional services such as meals, uniforms, and books, and that the procurement of these items is often forced to be made only from sales points designated by the school. These allegations, which were stated during the preliminary investigation process initiated by the Competition Authority, form the main basis of the investigation.

Within the scope of the review, the service policies and pricing strategies of many leading private educational institutions in the country will be scrutinized. Officials stated that, taking into account the complaints of parents during this process, the significant increases in both registration fees and additional service costs will be evaluated in detail as soon as possible.
