Controversial lateral transfer at Bezmialem Vakıf University: Student moved from Pharmacy to Medicine

Bezmialem Vakıf University has published the results for internal lateral transfer applications. The results screen showed that a pharmacy student had transferred to the faculty of medicine via a lateral transfer.

The fact that this transfer was carried out despite the prohibition of lateral transfers from the faculty of pharmacy to the faculty of medicine has caused reactions on social media. 

It has been alleged that this situation, which violates YÖK rules, was carried out to provide privileges to the children of 'influential' families.

UNIVERSITY ISSUES STATEMENT

A written statement was issued by the university regarding the matter.

The university administration defended that the lateral transfer procedures were in compliance with YÖK regulations.

The full statement from the University is as follows:

“ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE PUBLIC

Internal lateral transfer procedures at our university have been conducted in accordance with YÖK regulations; the requirement of being in the top 50 thousand in success ranking has been meticulously applied to the medicine program, just as it is in other universities. All applications have been evaluated in an equal, transparent, and compliant manner.

As Bezmiâlem Vakıf University, all our operations are subject to administrative and legal oversight in accordance with YÖK and relevant regulatory provisions.

For some time, intentional and untrue statements have been made against our university through certain political accounts on social media. These baseless allegations, which target our university—one of the distinguished institutions of our country—aim to undermine the dreams of our young people who have achieved success through great effort and have chosen our University.

As the university administration, we declare that we will exercise all our legal rights against those who spread these false and misleading statements. Respectfully announced to the public.
