Critical final week advice for students and parents before LGS
With the LGS exam approaching, experts have offered notable advice to students and families regarding stress and anxiety management. It was emphasized that, alongside academic preparation, psychological support plays a decisive role in the success process.
Excitement is at its peak for both students and families ahead of the High School Transition System (LGS) exam to be held this weekend. Experts point out that families have important responsibilities in this final week, both for the continuation of academic work and for the protection of psychological well-being.
Guidance Coordinator Cihan Yeşilyurt pointed out that as the exam approaches, the increasing anxiety in families also raises stress levels in students, noting that it is of great importance for families to control their own emotions during this process. "Parents may be worried about their children's future. This is a perfectly natural situation. However, as the anxiety of families increases, so does the anxiety of students. Therefore, parents must first manage their own emotions and approach the process more calmly," he stated.
Yeşilyurt expressed that many parents wanting to meet their own expectations through their children can create pressure on students. Stating that families can inadvertently exhibit attitudes that negatively affect motivation during the exam period, Yeşilyurt underlined that what children need most is support and trust.
PARENTAL DOUBTS AND PRESSURE TRIGGER ANXIETY
Stating that some expressions used with days left until the exam can create additional pressure on the student, the Guidance Coordinator warned families by saying, "Expressions such as 'This exam will determine your life,' 'You must get this score,' or 'Don't get nervous' can increase the pressure on students. Make them feel that you trust them."
It was pointed out that in the final week, it is more beneficial for students to review and reinforce existing knowledge rather than trying to learn new information, and to re-evaluate their mistakes through practice exams. Additionally, it was stated that seeing the school where the exam will be held in advance could contribute to the student's relaxation.
It was also reminded that regular sleep, balanced nutrition, and keeping physical activities light play a major role in exam performance. Yeşilyurt emphasized that studying should be stopped one day before the exam and that it is important for students to spend that day resting and engaging in activities where they find peace.
Yeşilyurt addressed the students as follows: "Do not consume foods you are not accustomed to one day before the exam. Prepare necessary documents such as your ID and exam entry document in advance. Stay away from heavy physical activities and focus on resting by spending time in a way that makes you feel good. You have gone through a long journey while preparing for this exam. You have put in great effort, worked hard, and struggled. Now, what you need to do is trust the knowledge you possess and the effort you have shown. Stay calm, believe in yourself, and focus on doing your best. Your effort, your belief, and the strength you possess will lead you to success."
