Will schools close early? Statement from Minister Tekin
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin has put an end to claims that schools will close early. Tekin stated, "It is not legally possible, we have no such planning."
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin clarified questions regarding whether schools would close early during a live broadcast. Emphasizing that schools must remain open for 180 working days and that this must be planned in the previous year, Tekin said that early holiday plans are not legally possible.
Making a statement on the TRT channel, Minister Tekin drew attention to exam dates and said, "There is no such thing on our agenda."
Minister Tekin included the following statements in his explanation:
"Those who don't know say, 'Have an early holiday now, and start the schools earlier.' But that is something else. That is the calculation for next year. That is the calculation for the 180 days of next year. We need to complete the 180 days of this year somehow. This is not legally possible. We also do not have such planning. Already, both the exams within the scope of the transition from basic education to secondary education and the exams within the scope of the transition to higher education are planned according to this calendar. We have no such calculation. It is already 2 weeks after the holiday. I mean, if it were just a few days, we could discuss this, but we are talking about a 2-week period. Therefore, there is no such thing on our agenda."
